Pelletizing Low Durometer Material with The Polymers Center’s New Econ Lab Unit EWA10 - Underwater and Air Pelletizer

The Polymers Center’s new Econ underwater pelletizer

The Polymers Center has become a long-time partner of a major synthetic fiber manufacturer to compound TPU. The material produced by the team is low durometer and presents a problem when strand pelletizing. In the past, strand cutting was the only option the Polymers Center had for cutting these materials. If there is any wear on the bed knife or blades, it is very difficult to get a clean cut with this method. In addition to the cut quality the material would block together after cutting.

With The Polymers Center’s assistance, the manufacturer has been able to pelletize the soft material using the center’s Econ underwater pelletizer. This method not only cuts the material as needed, but also cools it more effectively.  In addition, we can treat the water to help prevent blocking of the pellets.
